Za potrditev diagnoze je potrebna rentgenska slika, ki izključi ostale patologije in je pri zamrznjeni rami normalna.

Ocenjeno je, da zamrznjena rama prizadene okoli 2-5 % splošne populacije. Običajno prizadene ljudi, stare med 40–70 let. Pogosteje prizadene ženske in osebe, ki trpijo za sladkorno boleznijo. Slednji imajo do 7-krat večje tveganje za razvoj zamrznjene rame. Zakaj do zamrznjene rame sploh pride, pa ni popolnoma jasno.

Ker lahko traja tudi več let, da se stanje zamrznjene rame izboljša to dolgo obdobje bolečine in invalidnosti bolnike prikrajša za njihovo običajno življenjsko rutino ter poklicne in rekreacijske aktivnosti.
