Poškodbe rotatorne manšete vključujejo tendinopatije in delne ali popolne rupture (raztrganine) ene ali več tetiv mišic. Predstavljajo 50-85 % patologij ramenskega obroča. Po 80. letu starosti ima do 65 % ljudi prisotne patološke spremembe rotatorne manšete, opazimo jih pa lahko tudi pri mlajših posameznikih. Do poškodb rotatorne manšete običajno pride zaradi ponavljajočih se preobremenitev (predvsem pri izvajanju aktivnosti z roko nad glavo), degenerativnih starostnih sprememb ali/in enkratnega travmatskega dogodka (npr. ob izpahu rame pri padcu na roko).

Brez ustreznega zdravljenja so posamezniki s poškodbo rotatorne manšete lahko podvrženi dolgotrajni bolečini.
